Investpatagonia buy online3igator s file lends fresh look at Charles Starkweather murder spree

Onepatagonia boots sale man s trash is another man s treasure. And sometimes it might just rewrite history.

A few years back Paul Shada of Plymouth, Neb., received a present from his brother. It was a file filled with carbon copies of case investigation papers written by Robert G. Anderson, a Lancaster County deputy sheriff in Nebraska. The entire file was found in a trashcan, according to Shada.

The file offers a never before seen glimpspatagonia women full zipe into one of the most famous murder sprees committed in the United States, by Charles Starkweather and Caril Ann Fugate in 1958.

Charles Raymond Starkweather (Nov. 24, 1938 June 25, 1959) was an American teenaged spree killer who murdered 10 people in Nebraska and Wyoming with his 14 year old girlfriend, Caril Ann Fugate. Starkweather, who was spotted eating at a Lusk cafe after news of the murders in Nebraska were broadcast by the media, killed a Montana salesman on Highway 20 26 between Lusk and Douglas before being apprehended outside Douglas by a Casper geologist and two local law enforcement officials on Jan. 29, 1958. Starkweather was executed 17 months later, while Fugate served 18 years in prison, stating she had been held hostage during the murder spree.

Deputy Sheriff Anderson testified in the Starkweather case but was hardly an important witness at the time. Yet his personal file offers a first hand look into Nebraska s most notorious serial killer. Words in his personal files strongly implicate Fugate s willing participation in the murders despite her decades long claim of innocence.

Based on news reports about Starkweather s and Fugate s trials, much of the information contained in Anderson s files was not heard in court.

Fugate always maintained that Starkweather was holding her hostage by threatening to kill her family in Lincoln, Neb., and claimed she was unaware they were already dead. Starkweather first claimed Fugate was captured by him and had nothing to do witpatagonia buy onlineh the murders; however, he changed his story several tpatagonia buy online2imes, finally testifying at Fugate s trial that she was a willing participant.

In Anderson s file of memorandums, he writes about a day when Starkweather and Fugate had a flat tire during their spree and ended up at Tate s Spatagonia guide pants backcountryervice Station on Highway 77 near Roca, Neb.

Anderson interviewed Marvin Krueger, age 29 at the time, who was employed as an attendant at Tate s. When he noticed Starkweather s car at the pump and Homer Tate, his boss, was rolling a tire from Starkweather s car to the garage to repair, Anderson wrote.

Krueger said he only noticed Starkweather inside the car but after the tire was removed Charles pulled the car around to the south side of the building on the cafe side and then came back into the service station, the memorandum reads.

Both Krueger and Tate were in the garage area when Starkweather entered the building.

Krueger told Anderson he watched Starkweather pick up a box of .410 shotgun shells and walk back into the garage.

Marvin turned around and preceded ahead of Charles (Starkweather), and when he got about half way back through the garage, he tuwhere to buy patagonia backpacksrned and looked toward Charles, and he saw a dull colored gun, believed to be nickel plated, but appearing not to have proper care. Charles had the gun lying in the palm of his right hand, but he moved it to his left hand when he whirled the chamber and asked if they had any shells for a .32 revolver. He was told No by Marvin (Krueger), and he returned the gun to his pocket, Anderson s memorandum reads.

The report indicated that Starkweather hung around as the tire was being repaired before paying for the repairs and the shotgun shells as well as a box of .22 long rifle rounds and 45 cents in gasoline. Starkweather had apparently picked up Tate s gloves by mistake and returned to the garage within a minute to give them back.

While Starkweatpatagonia buy online0her took care of the tire, gas and ammunition, Fugate went into the cafe, according to Anderson s memorandum.

Anderson interviewed Mrs. Howard Bell, age 30, who wpatagonia outlet store 04as a waitress at Tate s Cafe.

Bell said that while Starkweather was outside, she noticed this little teenager run in from the gas island at the station and sit on a stool at the northwest end of the coupatagonia better sweater jacket for womennter with her arm dangling over the edge of the counter. The girl ordered four hamburgers to go. It took between ten and fifteen minutes to fix the hamburgers, and during this time this girl sat there and watched Mrs. Bell constantly, as Mrs. Bell was walking back and forth doing her duties as waitress. At the time the hamburgers were done, and Mrs. Bell was bringing them to her, Charles walked in and handed a ten dollar bill to the girl.

The girl seemed cool towards Charles and just pushed the $10.00 bill towards the waitress. While thepatagonia buy online1 waitress went to get change, Charles moved towards the music box and waited. The girl got the change and moved towards the door, brushed on past Charles, and walked south around the end of the building, watching the waitress all the time. Mrs. Bell stated that this was unusual, and she watched until the girl was out of sight. The girl was alone around the building to the best of Mrs. Bell s knowledge, and she does not know where Charles went, Anderson s report reads.

The twist on this tale of mass murder lies on what Bell said next.

Mrs. Bell stated that there were three or four men at the counter, and in her opinion, the girl had ample opportunity to mention that she needed help, call the law, or even think it over as to what she should do, or she could have even written a note. Mrs. Bell stated that the girl did not act the least bit nervous or concerned, and that everything appeared to be all right. There was nothing unusual in her actions, except for watching the waitress, Anderson wrote.

Starkweather and Fugate left Tate s Garage but returned again about 5:30 that afternoon, pulling up to the gas pumps and buying $1.40 in gas. Fugate was noticed to be with him and they both just sat inside the car while at the gas station.

It was not stated in the file if Stpatagonia guide jacket womenarkweather and Fugate were in the same or different cars when they returned.

Krueger said he saw a .410 shotgun and a .22 rifle lying in the front seat of the vehicle, according to Anderson s report. The butts of the guns were between Starkweather and Fugate and the barrels were resting across Fugate s lap as she sat on the passenger s side of the car, according to Krueger.

Starkweather asked for a map of Kansas, purchased more rounds for the .22, which cost 75 cents, and he left the station headed south on Highway 77.

On that same day, Jan. 27, 1958, Starkweather and Fugate allegedly drove to the Bennet, Neb., farm house of 71 year old August Meyer. Meyer s house is just a few miles from Tate s Service Station. Starkweather allegedly killed Meyer with a shotgun blast to the head. He killed Meyer s dog.

As they fled, Starkweather and Fugate got their car stuck in mud and abandoned the vehicle.

Robert Jensen and Cpatagonia guide pants xxxlarol King, two local teenagers, stopped to give them a ride and Starkweather forced them to drive back to an abandoned storm shelter patagonia guide pants 50's stylein Bennet, where he shot Jensen in the back of the head and attempted to rape King. Starkweather later admitted shooting Jensen, claiming that Fugate shot King. The two fled the scene in Jensen s car.
