There were parties, performances, film screenings, and a dinner program, and many a story was told, from mishaps behind stage to bloopers during productions. Special guest was founder Bernie Coyne. Cotillion Club annual fall dinner dance was Sept. 13 at Belmont Country Club. The organization, founded in 1940, is the only remaining ballroom dance club of its kind in the area. SIRENS sounded, lightning lit the skies, and rain poured. Guests under a tent along the Maumee River quickly took cover indoors. It was the annual fund raiser for the Great Lakes Historical Society and its National Museum of the Great Lakes. It was called Making Waves and was Sept. 20 at the museum. Last year the event took place during a snowstorm, but bad weather doesn deter these folks. The rain let up, so the party continued outdoors under a new giant rotunda style tent as the Toledpatagonia men's upslope fullo Symphony Jazz Trio played.

There were raffle baskets and a sealed bid auction, too.

The Luck of the Lakes Raffle, benefiting the historical society and museum, which includes all of the Great Lakes Superior, Michigan, Erie, Huron, and Ontario was a big draw with a top prize of $10,000 won by William Rosen of Seattle. The roughly $70,000 raised supports the National Museum of the Great Lakes, Col. James M. Schoonmaker Museum Ship, Peachman Lake Erie Shipwreck Research Center, Clarence S. Metcalf Great Lakes Maritime Research Library, and Island Seas.
